The New York Knicks finally landed a few head-coaching interviews. The Knicks initially struggled to land head-coaching interviews but could find a new head coach soon. The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau just days after the 67-year-old took the team to its first NBA Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years.

New York Knicks struggle to land interviews

After the New York Knicks’ firing, Thibodeau thanked Knicks fans in a full-page black-and-white ad in The New York Times. The ad began with:

“To the best city in the world with the best fans in the world: Thank you,” above a photo of Thibodeau standing courtside at Madison Square Garden.

“And to the fans, thank you for believing in me and embracing me from day one,” Thibodeau wrote. “Watching you support our team, and seeing the Garden ignite with that incomparable Knicks energy, is something I will never forget.”

Thibodeau’s departure from New York would lead to a new era of Knicks basketball, but the Knicks’ head-coaching search started on the wrong foot. The Knicks were reportedly shot down when requesting head-coaching interviews, despite coming off their best season in 25 years.

Knicks line up interviews

After receiving rejections from current head coaches, the New York Knicks lined up head-coaching interviews with two recently fired head coaches.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Knicks are set to meet with former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown.

Final thoughts

The New York Knicks are in the process of finding a new head coach to replace Thibodeau. There’s a possibility the Knicks could lean toward a head coach with experience in Jenkins, or shift toward a head coach similar to Thibodeau in Brown, who helped the Sacramento Kings end the longest playoff drought in NBA history at 16 seasons.

At the end of the day, the Knicks decide on a new head coach. However, the team should hire a new head who comes with a regular-season scheme, who believes in ball movement and who welcomes player development.
