New York Knicks’ Mikal Bridges reacts to tampering allegations
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks may have finally found the missing piece for their championship push in 2024-25 with the acquisition of Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets.

The guard was phenomenal for the Nets last season, but everyone understood that he was not a great fit for the team’s timeline, and a trade was inevitable. They found the perfect team to send it to as he was the centerpiece to a bizarre trade between two rival teams.

Not only was the trade interesting due to the two teams involved in the transaction but also the fact that many of the players now building the Knicks core spent time at Villanova. The observation is so on the nose that Villanova Knicks jokes are already making rounds on social media.

Due to this connection, people are throwing accusations that the players engaged in tampering to team up at the Madison Square Garden. While the allegations are most likely false, the man in the middle of it all gave a clear response to any doubters.

Mikal Bridges dismisses any possibility of tampering in New York Knicks trade

Bridges took to social media to address the rumors that his teammates tampered to get him over to the blue side of New York. His answer had pretty rough language, but he probably needed that to get his point across:

While it’s true that Bridges is a talented scorer who can add a new dimension to the New York Knicks offense, he’s not a superstar who would demand tampering to acquire.

While Bridges’ 2023-24 season was impressive (19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 43.6% FG and 37.2% 3FG), those numbers aren’t convincing enough to get teams into tampering. Moreover, his lack of any All-Star appearances makes it clear that he’s not considered a star in today’s league.

While others may have their qualms about the entire thing, it cannot be denied that the Knicks have things sorted out. Hopefully, the vast resources they invested in him will result in an NBA championship sooner than later.
