The New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets stand among the top championship contenders for next season.

Both teams built impressive momentum through their playoff runs and strategic free agency moves.

The Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season, while the Nuggets battled the champion Oklahoma City Thunder in a grueling seven-game series.

Their offseason additions have only strengthened their championship aspirations.

Yabusele explains the difficult choice between Jokic and KAT

Guerschon Yabusele found himself at the center of this championship race when both teams pursued his services.

The French forward ultimately chose New York, but not without serious consideration of Denver’s attractive offer.

Playing alongside Nikola Jokic presented an undeniable temptation for Yabusele. The reigning MVP’s playmaking ability and court vision create easy scoring opportunities for his teammates throughout every game.

“Playing with Jokic, who I think is one of the best big men in the world, he passes the ball just as well as he scores, that’s something you can’t ignore.

“You think about the easy points you’d get, 6 or 7 just from his assists because he draws so much attention and makes really smart passes,” Yabusele explained.

Why the Knicks’ system convinced Yabusele they share the same DNA

However, Yabusele discovered similar strengths within the Knicks’ system that ultimately swayed his decision.

The team with their stars, playing style, and competitive culture aligned perfectly with his basketball philosophy.

“But then you also look at New York with someone like [Jalen] Brunson, who draws defenders and is also a great passer. And someone like Karl-Anthony Towns, who’s super impactful in the game,” he continued.

“So you start seeing similar strengths in both teams. We took some time to think it through and make sure we were making the right decision. But in the end, we truly believe New York is the best choice we could’ve made.”

Yabusele’s $12 million deal gives the Knicks exactly what they needed

Despite some fan criticism regarding his two-year, $12 million contract, Yabusele’s statistics suggest he could provide significant value for the Knicks.

Last season, he averaged 11 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 50.1% from the field and 38% from three-point range with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The versatile Frenchman can play multiple frontcourt positions, stretch the floor with his shooting, and contribute defensively.

His skill set perfectly complements Karl-Anthony Towns while providing reliable depth for New York’s championship pursuit.
