Nikola Jokic has missed the Denver Nuggets’ last four games due to a left knee injury. The three-time NBA Most Valuable Player was diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee, which he sustained in Denver’s 147-123 loss to the Miami Heat on Dec. 29.
It was later announced by the team that Jokic would be forced to miss at least one month as he recovers from the knee injury. This meant that the seven-time All-Star would not be available for January.
A new report emerged on Tuesday and it appears that Jokic is making good progress in his road to recovery.
Jokic is in the midst of another big year for the Nuggets. In 32 games played thus far, the seven-time All-NBA center has produced averages of 29.6 points on 60.5% shooting. He’s also leading the league in rebounds (12.2) and assists (11.0), to go along with 1.4 steals and 2.1 triples in 34.6 minutes per contest.
Shams Charania of ESPN provided a crucial injury update on Jokic’s injury status on Tuesday. According to the senior NBA reporter, Jokic remains on track to make his return towards the end of January.
“Nicola Jokic is rehabbing around the clock,” Charania said. “It's really been every few hours. He's been weightlifting. He's been getting cardio in on the bike. He's been icing that knee. And I am told he has started spot shooting on the court.
“The Nuggets won't be rushing Nicola Jokic back. He's still weeks away from a potential return. So you're looking at the end of this month as a window for that.
“They still need to allow him to build some movement. Sprinting, running, cutting and that's gonna take place over the coming weeks.”

It is important to note that when the Nuggets announced Jokic’s injury on Dec. 30, the team noted that the 30-year-old would be re-evaluated in four weeks. This recent update from Charania falls within that timeline, which means that, at the very least, it appears that Jokic has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery process at this point.
The Nuggets are currently 24-12 on the season. They will be back in action on Wednesday in a road game against the Boston Celtics. Tip-off from TD Garden is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
