Nikola Jokic reveals his ultimate goal after retiring from NBA

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is arguably the best basketball player in the world right now. But once his playing days are over, the Serb apparently wants to go off the grid.

Jokic recently sat down with teammate Michael Porter Jr. on the latter’s “Curious Mike” podcast.

Porter asked the two-time MVP about the fame and fanfare that comes with being a global superstar. Jokic was candid in stating that he very much dislikes the fame.

The Joker admitted that his goal is to be able to exist in complete anonymity. Jokic added that he just wants a few things in life: be a good father, stay in the moment and live life without a cell phone (7:43 mark).

“When I finish my career, I really wish nobody knows me,” said Jokic. “I wish my kid in the future…really knows me as a dad and not as a basketball player. I’m going to say that’s my goal in life. And to not have a phone. I think that’s another big goal of mine. Just to be in the moment.”

Jokic didn’t just speak for himself. The Nuggets star lamented modern societal behavior that places too much importance on recording moments rather than living in them. He called it “rude” when people record him while doing mundane things when he isn’t really trying to “show himself.”

At 28 years old, Jokic is currently in the prime of his career. The five-time All-Star will probably compete for titles over the next half decade or so.

But nobody should be surprised if Jokic retires earlier than expected to settle down and enjoy horse races with his daughter.
