North Carolina Says Ex-Center Eric Montross to Undergo Cancer Treatments
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The University of North Carolina announced today through their Twitter account that former Tar Heel All-American and NBA center Eric Montross was recently diagnosed with cancer and is beginning treatments.

Montross is currently a play-by-play radio announcer for the men’s Tar Heel basketball team. He won a national championship with UNC in 1993 and played for 8 seasons in the NBA. He was drafted ninth overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1994 NBA Draft. He also played for the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets.

He played all four years in Chapel Hill for the Tar Heels from 1990-1994. Montross was a key part of the 1993 Tar Heel team that won the national championship. His presence in the middle was the key to their success.

This news comes as a shock to fans of the Tar Heels as it was not something many if anyone knew about. Montross was always tough in the paint and on the court. We know he will bring that same toughness to this battle as well.
