VJ Edgecombe has shown promise, but he needs excellent mentorship to reach his full potential.

Being the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, there’s no doubt that VJ Edgecombe has a better upside than most of his class.

Moreover, Edgecombe was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers – a team full of NBA veterans. As a result, Edgecombe will get terrific mentorship from his teammates.

Eric Gordon vows to mentor VJ Edgecombe

One might think the likes of Joel Embiid or Paul George would step up as the biggest mentors for the 20-year-old shooting guard.

However, it’s actually Eric Gordon who plans to dedicate the majority of his time to mentoring the prospect.

“At my age, in my phase of my career, you have to mentor. That’s without a doubt. I’ve been around VJ the most. I’ve known him for quite a while,” Gordon told Keith Pompey of The Inquirer.

He added: “Of course, I will be looking forward to not just helping him, but also all the young guys.”

With Gordon already 36 years old and out of his prime, it’s no surprise that he wants to spend the twilight of his NBA career passing on his knowledge to the next generation.

But does that mean 76ers fans will no longer see Gordon on the hardwood?

Even during the tail end of his NBA career, Gordon remains a terrific three-point shooter. After all, he shot 40.9% from deep last season.

Keeping that in mind, Gordon sees himself in a similar role during the 2025-26 NBA season.

“But when I’m in the game, I’m going to have to do my part: Knock down shots, spread the floor, let guys operate the length [of the court] on their own.

“But when I’m out there, I’ve got to knock down shots, and I’ve got to look forward to making things happen,” Gordon concluded.

With the 76ers hoping to make a deep postseason run, the organization will be happy after seeing this mentality of Gordon.
