The Sugar Bowl matchup between Notre Dame and Georgia has been postponed and moved back to Thursday following the apparent terrorist attack that struck New Orleans earlier this morning.
New Orleans district attorney Jason Williams made the announcement during a press conference following an attack where a driver plowed his truck through a crowded street, with reports of at least 10 dead and over 30 injured. The attacker was killed on scene by police.
The game was originally slated for 8:45 PM ET tonight but will now get moved back to Thursday, January 2nd and is slated to have the same kickoff time. There are obviously concerns about ensuring the safety of the teams involved in the game and all those who plan to attend the game.
"The Sugar Bowl Committee is devastated by the terrible events from early this morning," said Jeff Hundley, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sugar Bowl. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
Notre Dame released a statement following the attack.
"Our prayers are with the family members and loved ones of all those impacted by the terrible attack in New Orleans early this morning. We also pray for all those injured and extend our deepest gratitude to the brave first responders who risked their lives to protect others. To be in solidarity with those who suffer is to exemplify the spirit of Notre Dame. Today, we are in solidarity with all those impacted by this tragedy."
