The Denver Nuggets remain one of the best teams in the Western Conference, as they have been for much of the past decade, a stretch that includes their 2023 NBA championship.
While superstar Nikola Jokic has been the centerpiece of the franchise’s success, it is hard to imagine Denver reaching this level without shooting guard Jamal Murray. The 29‑year‑old made his first All‑Star team this season, finally receiving recognition for the impact he has made since being drafted seventh overall in 2016.
It is easy to see why. Through 53 games, he is averaging a career‑high 25.5 points along with 4.4 rebounds and 7.5 assists while shooting 48.3% from the field and an elite 42.3% from beyond the arc. Murray’s impact comes from his ability to create his own shot, score efficiently from deep and operate as one of the league’s most trusted late‑game guards.
As the Nuggets prepared for Wednesday’s home game against the Boston Celtics, Murray’s status was uncertain. He has been dealing with a hamstring issue over the past week that, fortunately, has not forced him to miss time but has clearly been bothering him.
He was cleared to play and started the game, logging two points and an assist in his first seven minutes while missing his first two 3‑point attempts. However, as the second quarter began, he was not available for his next shift, immediately raising concern that his hamstring had flared up.
Moments later, the Nuggets announced on X that the injury was not the issue. Instead, Murray was dealing with an illness and was listed as questionable to return. He did not come back in the second quarter, and as the second half began, Denver ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

This is significant because the Nuggets cannot afford to be without Murray for long stretches. He is essential to their hopes of securing a top seed in the Western Conference and making another deep postseason run.
The good news is that this setback is illness‑related rather than another injury, meaning it can be managed and should not linger. Denver will hope he recovers quickly, because their ceiling depends heavily on Murray being healthy and available down the stretch.
