The Denver Nuggets look as strong as ever and appear to be one of the top contenders to emerge from the Western Conference and return to the NBA Finals. With superstar center Nikola Jokic leading the charge, Denver always has a chance, especially after he guided the franchise to a championship just three seasons ago.

This year, Jokic has had a strong supporting cast around him, and the team has shown impressive depth, even staying competitive during the stretch he missed in January with a knee injury. No player in that group is more impactful than shooting guard Jamal Murray.

Murray is exceptionally effective alongside Jokic because of their elite two‑man chemistry, particularly in the pick‑and‑roll, which consistently generates high‑efficiency offense.

During Friday’s game against the New York Knicks, the Nuggets were looking to secure a third straight win against a strong Eastern Conference opponent. Unfortunately, as halftime approached, Denver trailed by double-digits.

To make matters worse, moments before the break Murray suffered an injury after landing awkwardly on his left leg. Bruce Brown finished the half in his place, and Murray had to be helped to the locker room.

When the second half began, he was nowhere to be seen, and shortly after, the Nuggets announced an update to his status. “Injury Update: Jamal Murray is questionable to return to tonight's game with a Left Ankle Sprain,” the team wrote on X.

This is especially troubling for Denver, as they had just welcomed Aaron Gordon back on Friday, and now one of their most important players could be sidelined again.

The injury itself looked uncomfortable, with Murray immediately grabbing at the ankle and struggling to put weight on it. Given his history of lower‑body issues, even a minor sprain raises concern about whether Denver will need to manage his workload in the coming weeks.

Murray is having the best season of his nine‑year career with Denver. The 29‑year‑old veteran earned his first All‑Star selection and has averaged 25.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists while shooting 48.4% from the field and a career‑high 43.2% from beyond the arc.

If the Nuggets hope to maintain their push for the top of the West, keeping Murray healthy will be essential.
