On Monday, the NBA announced their Player of the Week awards for both conferences for week 11 of the season. Denver Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokić was named Western Conference Player of the Week while Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics was awarded the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
For Jokić, this is the second time this season that he has earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors. This also marks the 16th time he has won the award in his career, which is the most in Nuggets’ franchise history.
It was a great week for Denver’s star center as he averaged 36.5 points, 16.5 rebounds, 11.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 46.7% from the field en route to winning the award. The Nuggets finished the week 3-1 with their only loss coming in the first part of their back-to-back against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs last Friday. He also became the 33rd player in NBA history to reach 15,000 career points before turning 30 years old.
This was another great week for Jokić who has put together arguably the best season of his career, which is hard to believe. He has led Denver to a 20-14 record which has them sitting fourth in the West standings.
Jokić is also once again in the MVP conversation this season after winning his third MVP award last year. The 29-year-old is averaging 31.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 55.3% from the field and an NBA-best 47.3% from three-point range.
With Jokić once again dominating this season, it is likely that he is named Western Conference Player of the Week multiple times down the stretch and he might just win his fourth MVP award by the end of the season.
