An offseason NBA trade proposal sending Kyrie Irving from the Dallas Mavericks to the Orlando Magic has been created.
NBA writer Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report created the following trade proposal between the Mavericks and Magic:
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Jalen Suggs, F/C Jonathan Isaac
Orlando Magic Receive: PG Kyrie Irving
Irving won’t play this season, as he’s recovering from the torn left ACL he suffered last season against the Sacramento Kings. The Duke product, who turns 34 this month, is better suited to play for another team at this stage of his career since the Mavericks are rebuilding around Cooper Flagg.
This NBA trade proposal pairs Irving with Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Desmond Bane. Orlando needs a point guard to run its offense and Irving is one of the top floor generals in the league when healthy.
Dallas signed Irving to a three-year, $118 million contract last July. Irving will make $39.5 million next season. He can become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason of 2027 by declining his 2027-28 player option worth $42.4 million.
The Mavericks traded Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards this season but chose to keep Irving, who averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game last season in 50 appearances. Dallas didn’t want to trade Irving because the franchise believes Flagg needs to play with an elite point guard to develop the right way, sources told DallasHoopsJournal.
However, Flagg has shown this season that he doesn’t necessarily need Irving to develop properly. The swingman is averaging 20.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.
It will be intriguing to see if Irving gets traded this offseason or remains on the Mavericks. Irving doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. The nine-time All-Star holds career averages of 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and Mavericks.
The Magic could be one of the top teams in the East next season with Irving in the fold next to Banchero, Wagner and Bane. Banchero and Irving both went to Duke.
