The New York Knicks faced off against the NBA's best in the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday in a head-turning showdown.
Coming into Friday night, the Thunder sat atop the Western Conference with an NBA-best 28-5 record, riding a 13-game win streak. The Knicks entered the affair on a nine-game win streak of their own.
And the result?
The game was a tight-knit battle until the end, with the Thunder coming out on top 117-107.
The two teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter. ... but Wiggins caught fire in the fourth, posting 15 points in the quarter, knocking down his threes.
The Knicks meanwhilefound themselves frustrated with Ben Taylor and the officiating crew, as despite a physical matchup the Thunder weren't whistled for a foul in the fourth quarter until 2:08 left in the game.
The Knicks brought OKC's deficit to within five with under a minute left when former Knick Isaiah Hartenstein's signature push shot made it a three possession game with under 40 seconds left in the game. A shot that helped the Knicks put away multiple games in the playoffs last season was the one that put the Knicks away tonight.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 33 points. Hartenstein only had four points of his own but pulled in 14 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Wiggins finished the night with 19 points as the Thunder extend their winning streak to 14.
Jalen Brunson struggled to find the bottom of the net, shooting just nine-for-23 from the field and missing all five of his three-point attempts. Brunson still had 22 points and nine rebounds on the night, but it wasn't enough to get his team over the hump. OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges both had at least 20 points, with Josh Hart finishing with 19. Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 17 points and 22 rebounds.
Despite the Knicks having another game on Saturday night, only three players made it off the Knicks bench, with Precious Achiuwa, Landry Shamet and Cam Payne combining for just 30 minutes.
The Knicks will face off against the Chicago Bulls tomorrow night at 8 p.m.
The Knicks and Thunder will face off yet again next Friday night at Madison Square Garden.
