The Oklahoma City Thunder franchise has become a powerhouse when it comes to producing scoring leaders, with an astonishing 7 of the last 16 NBA scoring champions hailing from the organization in one form or another. This includes some of the most prolific and dynamic players in NBA history, and the streak looks poised to continue in 2025 with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the charge.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2025)

In the 2024-25 season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as a bona fide MVP candidate, averaging an incredible 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while shooting 51.9% from the field and 37.5% from three.

His all-around offensive game has been a key factor in OKC’s remarkable season, where they posted the best record in the league at 68-14. His elite scoring ability, combined with a balanced offensive game, has made him a front-runner for the MVP, solidifying his place among the elite scorers in the league.

Russell Westbrook (2017)

Before Gilgeous-Alexander’s breakout, Russell Westbrook made his name as a scoring leader, finishing as the league’s top scorer in 2017. Westbrook’s 31.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 10.3 assists that season—his historic MVP campaign—cemented his legacy as one of the most electrifying and relentless players in NBA history.

Westbrook’s unprecedented triple-double season was built on his unyielding drive and an ability to score at will, especially in transition, and it was that same ferocity that earned him the scoring title in 2015.

Russell Westbrook (2015)

Westbrook again made his mark in 2015, where he averaged 28.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.6 assists. This was the season that saw him take over after Durant’s departure, taking on an even larger offensive role.

His raw athleticism, combined with his ability to finish in a variety of ways, made him one of the most unstoppable forces in the NBA. His scoring ability was especially evident after the All-Star break, as he went on a tear that saw him average over 30 points per game in the latter part of the season.

Kevin Durant (2014)

The 2014 scoring title belonged to Kevin Durant, who put together one of the most remarkable seasons in recent history. Durant averaged 32.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting a blistering 50.3% from the field and 39.0% from three.

This was the year he also won the MVP award, as his efficient and dynamic scoring led the Thunder to one of the league’s best records. Durant’s ability to score from anywhere on the floor, coupled with his improved playmaking, made him the most dominant offensive player in the league.

Kevin Durant (2012)

Durant’s scoring prowess continued in 2012, where he averaged 28.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. Durant’s smooth and efficient scoring led the Thunder to the NBA Finals that season, and his ability to score at all three levels—inside, mid-range, and beyond the arc—was a testament to his versatility.

He was unguardable, using his height and length to shoot over defenders while still possessing the quickness to blow by them.

Kevin Durant (2011)

In 2011, Durant led the league with an average of 27.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. His scoring ability continued to develop, with his deadly jump shot and ability to finish at the rim.

Durant’s offensive repertoire was as smooth as it was diverse, and his performances during this season set the stage for the next few years of his dominance as a scorer.

Kevin Durant (2010)

At just 21 years old, Durant captured his first scoring title in 2010, averaging 30.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. This was the season where Durant truly announced himself as one of the NBA’s elite players, combining his long-range shooting with impressive finishing around the rim.

He became the youngest scoring champion in NBA history at the time, showcasing the talent that would define his career.

What’s even more impressive is that James Harden, a former Thunder player, also claimed the scoring title three times during his tenure with the Houston Rockets. Harden’s inclusion further underscores the offensive legacy of the franchise, as the team’s ability to develop prolific scorers is unmatched in recent NBA history.

If you factor in Harden’s seasons as a scoring leader, the total jumps to 10 out of the last 16 scoring leaders connected to the Thunder, either directly or indirectly.

From Durant’s early dominance to Westbrook’s triple-double explosion and now Gilgeous-Alexander’s current run, Oklahoma City has produced an unparalleled lineage of offensive firepower.

The franchise has established itself as a breeding ground for scoring champions, and with Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way in 2025, it’s clear that OKC’s legacy as a producer of scoring talent is far from over.
