The Orlando Magic got a much-needed win against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night.
The Orlando Magic came in their matchup against the New York Knicks one game under .500.
It had been a disappointing season for the Magic in the early going as they have struggled to figure things out.
The Magic were penciled in as a top three team in the Eastern Conference by many so they were falling way short of their desired expectations.
The Magic got the victory over the Knicks thanks to a nice performance by their dynamic duo.
Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero played well, which promoted Wally Szczerbiak to call Orlando’s duo ‘the real deal.’
Wagner had a huge 28-point performance, meanwhile Banchero finished with just 4 points in 12 minutes as he left the game early after straining his left groin.
That didn’t slow down the Magic as Wagner continued to show off his brilliance against the Knicks’ top defender OG Anunoby.
“OG Anunoby is one of the best defenders in the league, and Franz Wagner did whatever he wanted against him.
“He posted him up, used his size, used his athleticism, that was an elite match-up.
“The way Wagner and Banchero played, they were the real deal. They came into MSG and they were not scared, they were not afraid, intimidated one bit.
“If they can stay healthy they will be a force. Coach Mosley, he is a heck of a coach too.”
Banchero got an MRI following the game and it confirmed that he does have a left groin strain, per Shams Charania.
Banchero has been ruled out for Friday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets and he will be evaluated daily going forward.
If Banchero misses more than one game this will be a huge blow to the Magic who are trying to build some momentum after their big win in New York.
Overall, Banchero has had a down year so far averaging 21.7 points on 25 percent shooting from downtown.
