D.J. Wilson is coming off a year where he played in the G League for the Oklahoma City Blue.
In 18 Showcase Cup games, the 27-year-old averaged 15.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest while shooting 48.1% from the field and 33.8% from the three-point range (he also appeared in five regular season games).
This summer, Wilson was a free agent, and he has now officially signed with the Orlando Magic.
Via The Magic: "The Orlando Magic have signed free agent forward D.J. Wilson, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed."
Wilson was initially the 17th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Michigan.
He has played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors over five seasons.
His career averages of 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 41.9% from the field and 32.7% from the three-point range in 146 regular season games (he has also appeared in eight NBA playoff games).
Since Wilson is still young (and a recent first-round pick), he could end up being a good addition to the Magic.
As for the Magic, they are coming off a year where they were the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 34-48 record.
They were competitive but missed the NBA playoffs for the third straight season.
That said, the Magic have a very young and talented roster, so there is a chance they could make a push for the play-in tournament in 2024.
