Pacers bringing in Monte Morris on camp deal

The Pacers are giving veteran point guard Monte Morris a shot at making the roster, with ESPN’s Shams Charania reporting he has agreed to a one-year deal. Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, it’s non-guaranteed.

Indiana currently has 13 players on fully guaranteed contracts, so there’s room for Morris to try and stick. But with the camp roster already full, a corresponding move will be needed.

The Pacers are without Tyrese Haliburton for the year as he recovers from an Achilles tear, meaning Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell are set to hold down the point guard minutes. Morris, 30, could give them another steady hand in reserve.

He played 45 games off the bench for the Suns last season, averaging 5.2 points and 1.6 assists in just under 13 minutes a night.

Across seven seasons with Denver, Washington, Detroit, Minnesota and Phoenix, Morris has appeared in 420 games with career averages of 9.5 points and 3.6 assists, while shooting nearly 39 percent from deep.
