Indiana Pacers fans went way back in the time machine to break out a taunt for Carmelo Anthony on Thursday night.

As Melo shot free throws during the first quarter of Portland’s 106-100 loss to Indiana on Thursday, some Pacers fans behind the basket could be heard chanting “Honey Nut Cheerios.”

What’s the story with the Honey Nut Cheerios?

Well, back in 2013, the Knicks and Celtics got into a fight during a January game, with Anthony and Kevin Garnett getting into it. Anthony tried waiting for Garnett by the bus after the game.

A rumor circulated saying that Garnett got under Anthony’s skin by saying Carmelo’s wife La La tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios, which was an inference that he had been with her while Carmelo and La La were going through marital troubles. The rumor spiraled out of control to the point that Boston had to ban signs referencing the rumor. La La later said the rumor was not true and Garnett never said that.

Regardless, people still enjoy the rumor and decided to use it against Anthony — seven years later. That’s no surprise from Pacers fans, who are a particularly clever bunch.
