On Thursday night, the Indiana Pacers continued what has been an emerging trend for them and beat the red-hot Detroit Pistons. After snapping the Cleveland Cavalier's 14-game winning streak earlier in the week, the Pacers bested the Pistons 111-100. Detroit was 10-2 in their last 12 games.
Lost in the fold of a dramatic game was wing Aaron Nesmith, who made his return after missing all of November and December with an injury.
Nesmith started but played only nine minutes. However, he scored an efficient nine points and brought some needed defense against Cade Cunningham.
After the game, Nesmith made it clear that he could have played longer, but he and the training staff are taking things slow.
"He moved well," praised head coach Rick Carlisle. "He felt good. After the game, he's doing fine. We can build it from here."
As the Pacers rise up the standings, Andrew Nembhard and Tyrese Haliburton, especially, have found their footing. Haliburton was thrilled to have one of his better teammates back in the rotation.
"He's a defender at a high level, make open shots, play the right way," praised the All-Star guard. "Just glad to get him back and we know it's gonna be a progression as far as his minutes and what he's available to do, but we're excited to have him on the floor."
The Pacers will have a day off on Friday before taking on the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. With both Paul George and Tyrese Maxey healthy, the Pacers will need Nesmith's defense.
