Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton After Historic Comeback Win Over Knicks: ‘It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over’

This is just The Pacers Way. And Indiana did it again, overcoming what seemed insurmountable odds in the waning moments to top host New York in overtime, 138-135, in Game 1 of the East finals on Wednesday.

This one featured a game-tying two from Tyrese Haliburton — that at first looked like a 3-pointer when it bounced incredibly high off the rim, before dropping back in. That sent it to overtime.

Somehow, someway, the Pacers just keep pulling off the inexplicable.

“Basketball is fun, winning is fun,” Haliburton told TNT. “So proud of the resilience of this team. … We’ve played a lot of games where it felt like the other team was in control. (But) it ain’t over till it’s over.”

Haliburton delivered the famous Reggie Miller choke sign, displayed by Miller at Madison Square Garden 30 years ago during the first Pacers playoff miracle comeback vs. the Knicks. Now, we have another.

Fittingly, Miller was calling this game for the TNT broadcast.

Haliburton finished with a team-high 31, but he was hardly the only hero. Aaron Nesmith‘s incredible barrage of threes late in the fourth got Indiana back into it. In the end, Nesmith went for 30 points and 8-of-9 shooting on 3-pointers.

All of it helped the Pacers overcome a 14-point deficit with just less than 3 minutes left in regulation.

“It’s probably the best feeling in the world for me, when that basket feels like an ocean,” Nesmith said, via Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star.

As NBA stats guru Keerthika Uthayakumar wrote: “NBA teams were 0-970 when down by 14 or more points in the final 2:50 of regulation in the playoffs over the last 27 postseasons. They are now 1-970.”

She added: “Only four teams have come back from down 7+ in the last minute of the fourth or OT in the playoffs since 1998: Thunder on May 13, 2014; Pacers on April 29, 2025; Pacers on May 6, 2025; Pacers on May 21, 2025 (tonight).”

Jalen Brunson was amazing for the Knicks with a game-high 43 points. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 35. But it was all for naught. Game 2 is Friday night, also at MSG.
