Quentin Grimes, the shooting guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, is one of the more sought-after players on the free agent market who hasn’t signed yet. The fans, especially the 76ers’ fans, were left impressed with Grimes’ performances in the last stretch of the 2024-25 NBA season. He dropped a series of top-notch games, showcasing his talent in the process.
However, Grimes has been reluctant to sign a new deal at his current organization, the 76ers. Why? Mostly because the player is holding out for $25 million a year, which Philadelphia is reportedly reluctant to shell out, per The Athletic. Notably, Patrick Beverley, a former guard with the 76ers, recently expressed his opinions about the situation on the Pat Bev Pod.
He needs to relax… I’m all with the homies getting paid, but let’s be realistic… Put some more work in.
Patrick Beverley said
There are many factors for the 76ers to consider before offering Grimes a new deal he desires. One of them is how reliable the player is despite his strong showing in the ending part of the season. Another factor is that the 76ers have too many guards already, making it a hard decision for them.

After an injury ended his Rookie of the Year campaign, Jared McCain will return to the starting lineup. During his debut summer league game on Saturday night, VJ Edgecomb looked like a future star. Tyrese Maxey, who is still among the best scoring guards at his position, is also present.
Interestingly, unlike Beverley, a former NBA player urged the 76ers to re-sign Grimes for the performances he put in last season. Grimes, who was acquired by Philadelphia from the Dallas Mavericks, went from being a role player to a star, averaging 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
Many former NBA players have different thoughts on Quentin Grimes. While Patrick Beverley, who is known for his unusual takes, does not want the 76ers to give Grimes a new contract, former NBA player Jeff Teague‘s take on this is opposite. Teague made a recent appearance on the Club 520 podcast, where he spoke about the Grimes-76ers contract matter.
Trade PG, you can get him [Grimes] right now for four-year $40 million.
Jeff Teague said
Grimes has been the most effective player on the court in the majority of the Sixers’ 17 games with him on the roster, but they have only won three of those games. He has scored 30 points or more five times and averages 21.4 points and 5.5 assists. It would be difficult to argue against Tyrese Maxey, Quentin Grimes, Jared McCain, Guerschon Yabusele, and Joel Embiid starting five, and the scoring potential would be enormous.
A few weeks ago, the 76ers decided to stick with their big 3 of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, with all three of them being on huge contracts. Notably, the 76ers witnessed one of their worst seasons this past year, with injuries to all 3 star players during various intervals. Now, as per new reports, the 76ers are ready to trade Paul George ahead of the new season.
The Philadelphia 76ers will try to trade small forward Paul George this summer.
An NBA source told Hoops Wire
In terms of statistics, George experienced his poorest season since his second season in the league, which was in 2011–12. The Sixers are seriously hampered by having the nine-time All-Star on the team because he is merely a shell of himself. One of the major reasons they are looking to get rid of him this offseason.
