One player caused 12-year NBA veteran Patrick Beverley the most trouble with his incredible offense.

Over the years, the NBA has changed a plethora of rules, and some have benefited the stars on the offensive end of the floor.

For example, the abolition of the hand-checking rule has allowed stars to get incredible freedom on offense. But even then, some defenders have managed to make a name for themselves in this era.

Among them is a 3x NBA All-Defensive guard, Patrick Beverley, who has spent 12 seasons in the league. While Pat Bev has faced off against hundreds of players, he recently revealed which offensive superstar has given him nightmares.

Patrick Beverley says Luka Doncic is the tougher opponent he has ever had to guard

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently home to two generational superstars – LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

While James is a menace on both ends of the floor, Doncic’s greatest skill is his out-of-this-world scoring ability. Speaking of which, a highlight reel of the 26-year-old star’s scoring ability went viral on X.

The video showcased Doncic’s sensational offensive highlights during his first-ever NBA Playoffs series in 2020 vs the LA Clippers. At the time, Pat Bev was also a member of the Clippers, and he recently made a huge admission about Doncic’s scoring prowess.

“Toughest person I’ve ever had to guard. Sheesh,” Beverley tweeted in response.

Although the Clippers walked away with a 4-2 series win over the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic averaged a stunning 31.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game.

Patrick Beverley is still eyeing an NBA comeback

While Doncic has only continued to get better since the 2020 postseason, age has caught up to Beverley.

After all, he is currently 36 years old and has been out of the league since the 2023-24 NBA season. Despite not getting any younger, Beverley has pleaded with NBA GMs to help him make a comeback.

There’s no doubt that Beverley was an incredible defender during the prime of his career, it seems unlikely that he will earn a chance to play in the NBA again.

Stats (Career) Patrick Beverley
Points 8.3 PPG
Rebounds 4.1 RPG
Assists 3.4 APG

It’s also evident from Beverley focusing more on his podcast since his departure from the league. Be it about the NY Knicks or Deandre Ayton signing with the Lakers, Beverley always has something to say.
