Patrick Beverley on Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole: 'That should never happen'

It wasn't the shot heard 'round the world but it was sure the punch heard 'round the NBA. Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green cold-cocked his teammate, Jordan Poole, in practice last week.

The scuffle was apparently bad enough that the Warriors felt the need to discipline the four-time NBA champion internally. Then, the video of the punch came out. It was grainy and clearly leaked by someone within the organization that was trying to expose how bad of an altercation it was between Poole and Green — and how much of the aggressor Green was in the moment.

Supposedly the "internal discipline" is all the blowback Green will face because of the punch, but that hasn't stopped his peers and the NBA world as a whole from commenting on the situation. Largely, while it's understandable that teammates and professional athletes can get heated with each other at times, most admonished Green for hitting his teammate.

Patrick Beverley, current Los Angeles Lakers guard and one of the bevy of NBA players with a podcast, was no different in his thoughts on the situation.

Beverley was asked by his co-host about the situation and the 11-year pro was clear that he felt it was totally inappropriate by NBA standards. In fact, he thought Green's punch was surprising.

"That should never happen, at all," Beverley said.

The three-time All-NBA defensive player was asked if a punch was ever thrown on any of the teams he's been on.

"Like anything you argue, but fighting? No. I mean, you're a professional. That's a line you don't cross," he explained.

Beverley has played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He's back in LA now, but in his first season with the Lakers.
