LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers has become a constant topic of discussion this offseason.
With the Los Angeles Lakers clearly moving forward with Luka Doncic as the face of the franchise, it’s no surprise that LeBron James‘ name has come up in numerous rumors this summer.
It all goes back to James’ decision to opt into his $52.6m player option, but his agent, Rich Paul, clarified the intention behind it.
With that out of the way, James’ workout pictures with LA Clippers’ logo in the background went viral. However, LBJ’s former teammate Patrick Beverley came to the King’s defense.
Being the face of the league, James’ every action is under the microscope. After all, even the King’s absence from Doncic’s new contract extension press conference was taken out of context.
It took GM Rob Pelinka clearing the air for fans to calm down. Coming back to his viral workout pictures with the Clippers logo in the background, Pat Bev asked the masses to take a step back.
“Now he has to work out at certain gyms without certain logos to please fans? It’s his Instagram bro, he can post a ___ing picture, it’s OK,” Beverley said on his podcast.
He also addressed James’ similar picture at the Cleveland Cavaliers’ training facility, stating: “He posted a picture in Cleveland, they gave him ___ about it.”
Lastly, Beverley had a question for the media and fans alike: “What if I want to work out with my own guys without stepping on anybody’s toes?”
Even with Beverley coming to James’ defense, it’s unlikely that rumors about the 4x NBA champion will die anytime soon.
Whether you hate it or love it, playing at an elite level for 22 years is no paltry achievement as James prepares for Year 23 in the league.
Beverley reminded fans how stars are treated in the modern era to bolster his statement about the NBA’s all-time scoring leader.
“This is a revolving door, ___ just waived Damian Lillard, _____ just traded Luka Doncic, what I’ve done to the NBA, I’ve brought millions of dollars to it, I am LeBron James, I can choose my own destiny,” he concluded.
Assuming the trade rumors somehow die down, there’s still a debate about LeBron’s retirement. After all, James is reportedly expected to address his retirement before the start of NBA training camp.
