Paul George Confidently Names the 'Face of the NBA' Without Hesitation

Paul George has been a staple in the NBA for much of his career, and while this past season didn’t go as planned in his first year with the Philadelphia 76ers, he remains well attuned to what’s happening around the league.

On the latest episode of his show, "Podcast P with Paul George," he shared his thoughts on the current playoff picture — which is nearing a set NBA Finals matchup.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have already secured their spot after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games, while the Indiana Pacers hold a 3-1 series lead over the New York Knicks heading into Game 5 on Thursday night.

In that context, George made a bold and confident statement about who he believes is the "face of the NBA" right now. While it may be an unpopular opinion to some, he named Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton — who not long ago was voted the “most overrated” player in the league in an anonymous NBA players’ poll conducted by “The Athletic.”

“In my eyes, he is a superstar,” George said. “He’s the face of the NBA. He is the No. 1 option. He’s a pass-first point guard, but he can be your late-game scorer. He’s been clutch, he can play in isolation — that’s just not his primary role. I want to see him keep doing this, and I know he will.”

On Tuesday night during Game 4, Tyrese Haliburton made NBA history by becoming the first player ever to record 30-plus points, 10-plus rebounds, and 15-plus assists — all while committing zero turnovers in a playoff game. His historic performance helped the Pacers take a commanding lead in their series.

Now just one win away from reaching the NBA Finals, Haliburton is competing in his second consecutive Eastern Conference Finals. Over four games against the Knicks, he is averaging an impressive 24.3 points, 11.0 assists, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game.

In postseason closeout games throughout his career, Haliburton has maintained strong numbers, averaging 23.2 points, 7.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds.
