Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has led the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first NBA Finals berth since 2012.
After an impressive regular season campaign, averaging 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game, Gilgeous-Alexander took home the Most Valuable Player trophy.
Then he won the Western Conference Finals MVP as the Thunder punched their ticket for a shot at raising a banner.
Since the club moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, the Thunder has yet to win an NBA championship, despite a plethora of talent rolling through the organization.
Gilgeous-Alexander has the Thunder back in the Finals with a chance to finally do so, however. He's been dominating the headlines during his current playoff run, but not all the reasons have been good.
The "free throw merchant" conversation has been amplified. Even ESPN's Doris Burke is mentioning that title on air during games.
Plenty of pundits and players have come to the defense of the Canadian superstar, though, as the narrative has spun out of control, thanks to social media.
Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George is among the most recent players to make his opinion on Gilgeous-Alexander clear.
"It's more to it with Shai than him foul baiting… He just understands how to play physical and get guys out of position. That’s why he’s so deadly," George explained on his show, Podcast P.

Evidently, Gilgeous-Alexander has built his game on being able to manipulate the pace on the hardwood. His deceleration, quick second and third step and added physicality make him a difficult cover for any defense.
The reason the Thunder superstar is able to "foul bait" is because defenses have trouble staying in front of him and disallowing him to get to his spots on the hardwood.
George understands how great the Kentucky product is, as do many other NBA players and pundits. Still, social media narratives will prevail, regardless of what is actually happening on the court.
Gilgeous-Alexander and George are often considered when speaking of one another, considering the LA Clippers dealt the guard -- along with seven first-round picks -- to land George (pairing him with Kawhi Leonard).
