Paul George Wants Clippers To Keep Russell Westbrook
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

After what some would deem an unsuccessful run with the Lakers, Russell Westbrook has found new life in LA. He’s performed so well for the Clippers that some on the team want him on the roster beyond this NBA season.

Part of why the Clippers rolled the dice on Westbrook was because of Paul George. He thrived alongside the former MVP with the OKC Thunder and wanted to reunite with him on the court. During a recent media availability, George opened up on his desire to keep playing with him moving forward.

“He’s the leader that we need at the point guard position going forward. Would love to have him back… I’m definitely vouching for him to come back. I just think he brings so much to this team.”

After how he’s performed, it’s hard not to think that the Clippers won’t try to re-sign him come the offseason. With both of their All-Stars out of action right now, he is leading the charge for the team against the Phoenix Suns.

Through four postseason games, Westbrook is averaging 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. His time with the Clippers has been a resurgence after putting up some of the worst numbers of his career with the Lakers.

At this point in his career, many were starting to believe this was the beginning of the end for Westbrook. However, the All-Star point guard has proven that he still has something left to give an NBA team. If the two sides can agree on a proper price point, they might have a successful partnership in the future.

Given that George and Kawhi Leonard miss their fair share of time, Westbrook might make sense for the Clippers. His game has its shortcomings, but he is out there every night. Having someone like this could come in handy to get through the grueling days of the regular season.
