New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes has been sentenced following his July 2021 felony arrest in the Los Angeles area, according to an Associated Press report.

Police were called in response to a domestic disturbance issue, and Hayes allegedly resisted arrest upon authorities’ arrival on the scene. Hayes was tased during the interaction. Initially charged with a felony, Hayes pled no contest to misdemeanor charges of resisting an officer and false imprisonment in February.

The 22-year-old was sentenced to three years of probation, 450 community service hours, plus a year’s worth of weekly domestic violence classes, which he will take online. He will also make a restitution payment, though that price has yet to be determined.

Though he was arrested in Los Angeles, Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office spokesman Rob Wilcox said that Hayes would be permitted to fulfill his community service obligations in New Orleans.
