The NBA is no stranger to hilarious pranks, and few can match the comedic genius of the legendary Shaquille O’Neal. Veteran players love to pull pranks on rookies, and the New Orleans Pelicans just took this playful tradition to new heights with a classic joke on Micah Peavy and Jeremiah Fears.
Despite a tough stretch during the 2025-26 NBA season, the Pelicans are making the most of their off-court moments. After suffering two consecutive losses, they faced the Philadelphia 76ers, and it turned out to be a night to remember.
The highlight? Trey Murphy III pulled an epic prank while currently recovering from a right shoulder injury. During a live Instagram session, Murphy captured the rookie approaching his car, only to discover it packed to the brim with popcorn.
The sight had all the Pelicans players around him in stitches. But the fun didn’t stop there. Murphy also recorded Fears’ reaction when he found out his own car was similarly filled with popcorn.

While Peavy was momentarily taken aback and returned to the arena, Fears simply shrugged it off and continued talking on his phone. These hilarious moments have since gone viral on social media, and fans can’t get enough of the Pelicans’ playful antics. Interestingly, last year, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell pulled off a similar prank on his teammate Jaylon Tyson.
Fears is aiming to make a splash in his rookie season. Recently, the seventh overall pick made history by becoming the youngest point guard in the NBA to reach ten career games with 20 or more points. While these remarkable milestones are certainly exciting, they come with their own set of challenges and adjustments. In a recent interview at the Panini Prizm VIP lounge, Fears shared the biggest adjustment he got to face this season.
“Definitely traveling, on the road every two days, every other day. So being able to adjust to all the traveling, getting in late nights, you got to get up, you got to practice at nine in the morning, and stuff like that. You got to be able to read the scouting report. You got to know tendencies and things players like to do, the opposing team, and their coverages and stuff like that. So being able to adjust on the fly, it’s been huge. I think I’ve been doing an amazing job of adjusting on the fly,” Fears said (via Sam Yip of HoopsHype).
Fears has been a consistent presence for the Pelicans this season, playing in all 58 games and averaging 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. His rookie year hasn’t just been about numbers; he’s been in the thick of the action, including a notable altercation with Lu Dort. With only 24 games left in the regular season, the road ahead looks tough for the Pelicans, but fans are eager to see how Fears will shine in these final matches.
