New Orleans had been rumored to be looking to change things up following another poor season. Adding a player like Poole to the team could give them a jolt on offense, given his willingness to shoot the ball.
With Dejounte Murray's injury status still up in the air, the Pelicans must have felt that Poole could help run the show. Putting him next to Zion Williamson could give the Pelicans a chance to compete next season.
Last year with the Wizards, Poole averaged 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Poole had a career year with the Wizards and now heads back to the Western Conference.
The veteran guard brings championship experience to the Pelicans and should fit in nicely. New Orleans landing Bey is also a nice move for them, giving the team more depth across the roster.
As for the Wizards, landing McCollum is interesting. The Wizards aren't seen as contenders, so they could be looking to flip the veteran guard down the line.
However, Washington could also look to keep him around to play alongside some of the other veterans on the team. McCollum gets to join Khris Middleton and Marcus Smart in Washington for next season.
Overall, this is an interesting deal for both sides. On the surface, the Pelicans seem to have "won" the deal, simply due to Poole being younger than McCollum and a better scorer at this time.
