Philadelphia 76ers Beat Magic 136-124 and Improve to 3-0

The Philadelphia 76ers looked to stay undefeated on the season at home against the Orlando Magic in the third game of the season. They’d be without Joel Embiid tonight, as they continue to manage his knee. Embiid will not play in any back-to-back games, so he will return to the court tomorrow night against the Washington Wizards.

76ers Are Firing On All Cylinders

The 76ers have looked fantastic in every aspect throughout the first three games of the season. They have shown an incredible amount of fight in every game, winning tight contests, which is something they failed to do at every point last season. The young talent has been effective, allowing Nick Nurse to play at a fast pace.

Tonight, the Sixers’ backcourt came through yet again! Tyrese Maxey led the team in scoring tonight with 43 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists. Maxey has had 40 points in two of his first three games this season, and has averaged 37 points and 7.7 assists. He has really elevated his game this season, taking the reins without Embiid and Paul George. Rookie VJ Edgecombe was the second-highest leading scorer with 26 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds.

Philadelphia’s new look backcourt has been nothing but stellar. They can carry the team while their two biggest stars were sidelined tonight. They are no longer reliant on Embiid to get them across the finish line, allowing him to properly recover from the knee surgery he had earlier in the year.

This Team Is Just Different

It’s amazing how much better this team looks in comparison to last year. In 2024, they had no chance to win any games without George or Embiid. This year, they look fantastic without them. VJ Edgecombe has injected life into this team, and they just look happy to be playing basketball.

Daryl Morey was able to improve the depth in the offseason, and they’re still missing a ton of key pieces! George should be returning to the court soon, as he continues to practice daily. Jared McCain and Trendon Watford are still a ways away from returning, which will only make the 76ers’ bench stronger.

As for Embiid, there’s no need to rush him back. Andre Drummond and Adem Bona can clearly handle the load while Joel is out. The 76ers can continue to get him the right amount of rest and ramp him up to full speed.
