The Philadelphia 76ers have made their decision. And it looks like they might have also given up on this season, because we won't see Joel Embiid again in the 2024-25 campaign.
Yes, Embiid will miss the remainder of the season. The 76ers stated that he will "focus on treatment and rehabilitation" for his left knee.
Embiid had been dealing with fitness issues since the start of the campaign. He has played in only 19 of the Sixers' 58 games.
It is now pretty clear that he should not have played at the Olympics or even returned to feature in the playoffs for the 76ers last season so soon after undergoing surgery.
Not getting enough time to rest and recover from injury has clearly had an adverse effect and made the situation worse for the former MVP.

Of course, Embiid tried to battle through the issues and give the Sixers what he could, pushing this entire situation until late February.
But looking back, it would have been much better if it had been dealt with earlier. Philadelphia's season did not go anywhere, either. They are 12th in the East and have a 20-38 record.
Yes, there is still a possibility that they could make a play-in spot. That is how weak the East has been this season. But even if the 76ers do, it is hard to imagine that they will make a mark in the post-season.
Finally, we would like to wish Embiid well and hope that he is able to take care of the issue and return to the court fully fit next season.
