According to ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony, the Philadelphia 76ers reportedly floated the idea of packaging the third overall pick and Paul George for a possible blockbuster trade this offseason.
However, The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer dismissed the rumors, saying that the Philadelphia 76ers have shown “no indication” to part ways with their third overall pick and George, whom they signed via unrestricted free agency last year.
“Sources say that recent reports suggesting that the Sixers will be looking to explore George’s trade market in conjunction with the draft are a misread. There have been no indications that they are looking to package George with the No. 3 pick or try to move him on his own,” Fischer reported.
“The Sixers surely understand that there is little-to-no chance they could optimize a trade return for the 35-year-old after his injury-riddled maiden season as a Sixer… especially with three seasons remaining on George’s max deal,” he added.
Paul George endured one of the most difficult seasons of his NBA career in 2024-25, as he struggled to stay on the court at 100 percent for the Philadelphia 76ers. Besides his knee injury, the nine-time NBA All-Star revealed he also dealt with a torn adductor.
“Obviously the hyperextension, my knee was still bothering me. I had the brace for a long time, then I started to develop a quad tendon injury. So then that started to go flat on me, and I’m like, f---. So I’m like, all right, let me start taking medicine to try to numb this s--- up, start doing that,” George explained in Podcast P.
“Then I had an injury that I didn’t even know, and this was the original of why I was feeling like something’s off. I can’t move. I’m used to being able to explode. I’m used to cutting, come to find out I had a torn adductor,” he added.
