Philadelphia 76ers small forward Paul George will miss the start of training camp.

George is recovering from left knee surgery. He got injured during a workout over the summer.

“I’m getting better and better,” Paul George said on Friday at Sixers media day. “I’m feeling stronger and stronger. I feel a lot better now than I did at this point last year.”

The Sixers signed George to a massive four-year, $211 million contract last summer. George will make $51.7 million in 2025-26 and $54.1 million in 2026-27. The swingman has a player option worth $56.6 million for the 2027-28 season.

George played in 41 games last season. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 43.0% from the field, 35.8% from beyond the arc and 81.4% from the free-throw line.

George, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey appeared in only 15 games together in 2024-25. Philadelphia finished last season with a record of 24-58 and missed the playoffs.

A California native, George has played for the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Clippers and Sixers. He has career averages of 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

George, 35, has never reached the NBA Finals.

The Sixers had the third pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and selected VJ Edgecombe out of Baylor. Johni Broome was selected by Philadelphia with the 35th overall pick.

Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon re-signed with the Sixers in free agency, but Guerschon Yabusele left the team for the New York Knicks.

Philadelphia did sign Trendon Watford, who spent the last two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, and Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr. picked up their player options.

Quentin Grimes, though, remains a restricted free agent. He is not at media day. The guard has until October 1 to sign his qualifying offer.
