Philadelphia 76ers: Tyrese Maxey Shares Tough Admission Amid Injury Concerns

Philadelphia 76ers star point guard Tyrese Maxey was clearly not in his element Tuesday night versus the Toronto Raptors at Wells Fargo Center in Philly.

Maxey entered the Raptors game with many expecting him to put on a stellar individual performance again, just as he had done in the past several Sixers outings.

Prior to meeting Toronto, Maxey had put up an incredible average of 33.2 points on a 50.4 percent shooting from the floor in 14 previous appearances.

But on Tuesday, Maxey was in a cold spell. He couldn’t find his rhythm. The former Kentucky Wildcats star and 2024 NBA All-Star made just one of his nine attempts from the field. He missed six of seven takes from behind the arc, finishing with just five points in a 106-103 loss to the Raptors. His putrid production may very well be the difference that led to the Sixers’ 33rd defeat in the 2024-25 NBA regular season.

Philadelphia 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey sounds off amid concerns about health

Amid his forgettable showing and some concerns about whether he was dealing with an injury during the contest, Maxey expressed assurance that everything would be alright.

Maxey was asked in the locker room if he was dealing with anything physically, beyond the grind of a season: “I’ll be fine. I’ll be fine. I’ll be better tomorrow, and then I’ll get some rest. I’ll be good. I make no excuses. I should have been a lot more aggressive today.”

On the season, the 24-year-old Maxey, who was selected 21st overall in the 2020 NBA draft by the 76ers, is averaging 27.6 points, 6.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

He will look to pick things up again on Wednesday with a road game versus the Brooklyn Nets before facing the high-powered Boston Celtics at home on Thursday.
