Phoenix Suns Give Devin Booker Highest Annual Extension Salary in NBA History

It looks like Devin Booker will spend his entire NBA career with the Phoenix Suns.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Booker and the Suns have agreed to a two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension.

It is the highest annual extension salary in NBA history.

“Devin Booker, the Suns’ No. 13 pick in the 2015 NBA draft, has played all 10 NBA seasons in Phoenix and now lands his third contract extension to reestablish his long-term future with the franchise,” Charania wrote. “He has publicly and privately expressed the desire to play his entire career in Phoenix and bring a championship to the Suns.”

The Suns traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and six draft picks. Bradley Beal will also not be on the team next season, as the veteran shooting guard will get bought out soon.

Booker was the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Kentucky. His tenure in Phoenix has been rocky to say the least, as the talented scorer has played for seven coaches: Jeff Hornacek, Earl Watson, Jay Triano, Igor Kokoskov, Monty Williams, Frank Vogel and Mike Budenholzer.

The Suns fired Budenholzer in April and replaced him with Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott. Vogel and Budenholzer were fired by Phoenix after only one year at the helm.

Booker started 75 games for the Suns last season. He averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists while shooting 46.1% from the field, 33.2% from 3 and 89.4% from the free-throw line.

A four-time All-Star, Booker has scored the most points in Phoenix franchise history. He has career averages of 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists.

The Suns made the NBA Finals in 2021, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. Since then, Phoenix hasn’t even gotten back to the conference finals despite having Booker, Durant, Beal, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton.
