The league announced the six groups for the 2025-2026 Emirates NBA Cup, with the Phoenix Suns finding themselves in Group A. The groups were “randomly drawn” from teams in the same conference based on their win-loss record last season. Based on groups presented, it appears the league divided teams into three sections across the three conference groups: top 6 teams, Play-In teams and lottery teams.
Phoenix has never made it to the knockout stages in the first two years of the NBA Cup and find itself in another top position with the teams in Group A. The four other teams with the Suns will be the defending NBA Champions Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz.

The Suns combined record against its group opponents from the 2024-2025 season was 5-10, but four of the wins came against the Jazz. Phoenix went winless against the Minnesota and Oklahoma City, with a point differential of 14.9 in seven games. The only other win was a March, 14th game against the Kings, where the Suns big 3 scored 59 points in a 122-106 win.
Despite the turmoil last season, Phoenix nearly made it to the knockout stages of the NBA Cup going 3-1. The franchise was the first team out in the Western Conference because of point differential, losing its spot to the Dallas Mavericks. Much has changed with the roster since those days, but superstar guard Devin Booker remains the same as he recently locked into a long-term extension with the team to be a part of next and future years NBA Cups.
