Phoenix Suns Star Loses Per Diem to Teammate Because of Bet on Lions

The Phoenix Suns have faced quite a few challenges during this NBA season, but their two biggest stars got the chance to have a bit of fun Saturday night thanks to the Detroit Lions' Divisional Round matchup.

The Lions' game against the Washington Commanders pitted the hometown teams of the Suns' stars against each other with a spot in the NFC Championship Game on the line.

Devin Booker was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was rooting for the Lions in the game. Kevin Durant is from Washington, D.C. and was rooting for the Commanders in the game.

In the lead up to the game, the two Suns stars publicly discussed placing a wager on the matchup.

According to the Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin, that bet was for their per diems on their current road trip.

Those per diems were worth $161 per day, meaning the winner would claim $1610.

As a result of the Commanders' stunning upset, it ended up being Durant that walked away with the money.

The Suns were actually in Detroit on the day of the Lions-Commanders game as they had an afternoon matchup against the Detroit Pistons, which they won 125-121.

That coincidence allowed Durant to celebrate the win in the Commanders' locker room.

Durant also got to take a trip home on this road trip as the Suns' previous game saw them head to D.C. and beat the Washington Wizards.

Next week Durant will get to watch the Commanders take on the winner of the matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams.

Meanwhile, Booker will have to wait until September to see if the Lions can build on the things that went well this year and fix the issues that plagued their defense in playoffs.
