The Detroit Pistons have continued to be a formidable force in the Eastern Conference, entering Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers with a 24–8 record and the top spot in the standings.
While the Pistons have plenty of talent like Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson, they also rely on steady role players such as starting power forward Tobias Harris.
The 33-year-old veteran has been productive through his first 22 games, averaging 13.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 45.0% from the field and 32.6% from 3-point range.
Harris remains a key contributor thanks to his floor spacing, reliable scoring in complementary minutes and veteran leadership that helps guide a young roster through high-pressure situations.
During Tuesday’s game against Los Angeles, Harris got off to a strong start, scoring seven points in his first six minutes to help the Pistons build an early lead.
Unfortunately, he was forced to head to the locker room after his opening stint with an apparent injury. Shortly afterward, Detroit announced that he would not return due to a left hip strain. “Tobias Harris (Left Hip Sprain) will not return vs. Lakers,” the team posted on X.

For a team aiming to retain the top seed in the East, Harris’ health is vital. His ability to stretch defenses and provide veteran stability complements the explosive playmaking of Cunningham and Thompson. Losing him for any extended stretch could test the Pistons’ depth and chemistry.
Detroit is the fifth organization Harris has played for in his 15-year career, and it marks his second stint with the franchise after previously suiting up for the Pistons from 2016–18. His health and any subsequent updates will continue to be monitored.
