It has been a great season thus far for the Detroit Pistons as they continue to make a run at a championship.
Detroit turned their franchise around this season as they finished sixth in the Eastern Conference standings and made the playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
This was a complete turnaround from the last two seasons when the Pistons finished with the NBA’s worst record.
Of course, Detroit is currently in a first-round series against the New York Knicks and they were able to force Game 6 in the series with a victory in Game 5 on Tuesday night.
Detroit will now look to force Game 7 on Thursday night with a victory over New York.
While the Pistons are preparing for Thursday’s night’s win-or-go-home matchup, their star player Cade Cunningham had an opportunity to win an award on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately for Cunningham, he did not win the award as the NBA announced that Dyson Daniels of the Atlanta Hawks has been named the 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Improved Player.

Cunningham ended up third in voting behind Daniels and Ivica Zubac of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Despite not winning the Most Improved Player award, Cunningham still had an incredible season.
The 23-year-old averaged 26.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 9.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.9% from the field and 35.6% from three-point range this season.
Cunningham was also named an All-Star for the first time this season and it is likely that he will also be named to an All-NBA team.
Despite Cunningham's breakout campaign, it seems as though voters decided to go against him due to him being a former first-overall pick, allowing Daniels to win the award.
Now, Cunningham and the Pistons will look to extend their series against the Knicks at home on Thursday night in Game 6.
