Pistons' Cade Cunningham looks like he never left in new scrimmage video

The Detroit Pistons will go as far as Cade Cunningham takes them.

That's why the Pistons selected Cunningham with the first overall pick in 2021 and that's why they shut him down after only 12 games last season. He had season-ending surgery on his left shin to fix a problem that had apparently been plaguing him since high school.

Detroit "took the L" in the short-term with the hopes that Cunningham would be able to come back better than ever for 2023, and so far the indications are good.

A few days ago, general manager Troy Weaver said that Cunningham's progress is "full speed ahead". Cunningham should be ready to go and 100 percent by training camp.

If you don't take Weaver at his word, take a look at these highlights from a recent scrimmage Cunningham took part in.

Of course, it's not like Cunningham is playing against anyone noteworthy or even recognizable, but its obvious that he's healthy and perhaps better than ever.

Notably, Cunningham's outside shot -- which lacked an arch in his rookie and sophomore seasons -- looks like it's in good shape. There was some speculation that the shin problems had impacted his three-point shooting in the NBA, so it will be interesting to see if his career three-point percentage of 30.9% improves in year three.

It's worth noting that when he's healthy, Cunningham has shown superstar potential.

He averaged 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists as a rookie. In his 12 games in 2022, he averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and six assists per game.
