This wasn’t easy.

It wasn’t clean. It wasn’t dominant. And for stretches, it didn’t even look like the Detroit Pistons would survive.

But when the game mattered most, Detroit made the winning plays in overtime, outlasting the depleted Cleveland Cavaliers 133–119 in a gritty, hard-fought battle that required five extra minutes to decide.

And it was Detroit’s young stars who delivered under pressure.

Jalen Duren was the biggest force on the floor all night, finishing with a massive 33 points and 16 rebounds in one of the most dominant performances of his career. But his biggest plays came late — controlling the glass, finishing through contact, and wearing down Cleveland’s front line as overtime unfolded.

Every rebound felt like a dagger.

Every bucket felt like momentum shifting.

Alongside him, Cade Cunningham once again proved why he’s Detroit’s franchise cornerstone. Cunningham filled the stat sheet with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, controlling the pace and making key decisions when the game hung in the balance.

He didn’t force the moment.

He owned it.

Ausar Thompson added 18 points and made multiple hustle plays that helped Detroit extend possessions and survive Cleveland’s pushes.

But this win didn’t come easy — not even close.

Despite being shorthanded, Cleveland refused to go away.

Jarrett Allen was outstanding, scoring 25 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting while battling relentlessly inside. Evan Mobley added 23 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks, anchoring Cleveland defensively and delivering key baskets to keep the Cavaliers alive.

Sam Merrill chipped in 20 points and hit several timely threes that swung momentum, while Cleveland’s ball movement and defensive effort helped them push the game into overtime despite missing key offensive weapons.

For four quarters, Cleveland fought like a team with nothing to lose.

And for four quarters, Detroit struggled to put them away.

That’s what made overtime different.

The Pistons elevated.

Detroit outscored Cleveland decisively in the extra period, controlling the glass and capitalizing on second chances. Their energy didn’t fade — it increased.

Cleveland, meanwhile, simply ran out of answers.

Fatigue set in. Shots stopped falling. And Detroit took control.

This wasn’t a blowout.

This was a test.

And the Pistons passed.

For a young team still learning how to win consistently, this kind of victory matters. Closing out a close game. Executing in overtime. Trusting their stars in pressure moments.

These are the wins that build belief.

Detroit didn’t dominate.

They endured.

And in the end, that was enough.
