The Detroit Pistons are closing in on a one-year deal with free agent swingman Javonte Green, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.
Green, 32, began his professional journey overseas after going undrafted from Radford in 2015, but he eventually earned a spot in the NBA. Over the past few seasons, Green has become a reliable rotation player for several teams.
Since entering the league in 2019, Green has played for the Celtics, Bulls, Pelicans, and Cavaliers. In 263 regular-season appearances, he has averaged 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game.
Known primarily for his defense and versatility, Green played for both the Pelicans and Cavaliers last season. He made 18 starts and appeared in 50 games for New Orleans before being bought out and joining Cleveland.
Overall, he averaged 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 18.5 minutes across 68 games, with a shooting line of .429/.326/.724.
Charania’s report does not provide specific details on Green’s contract with the Pistons, including whether it will be guaranteed. However, it’s expected to be a minimum-salary deal.
The Pistons currently have only 13 players on standard contracts, meaning that even if Green’s deal is not fully guaranteed, he will likely have a strong chance of securing a spot on the team’s 15-man roster for the upcoming season.
