The Detroit Pistons are halfway to getting a series win following their Game 2 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, with a 107-97 final tally in downtown Detroit.
Following the game, Detroit Pistons star guard Cade Cunningham, who led with 25 points and 10 assists for the team, opened up about why the team has hit their stride.
When asked how the team regained their composure, Cunningham strongly asserted that they didn't. That's because the team never lost their composure.
"We never lost composure," he said after the game. "We just stayed poised, stuck to our principles, to our system and, you know, just turned up the energy a little bit."
It's a simple message, but it's true. The Pistons are staying calm, cool and collect during this series, and it shows.
Cunningham had 12 of his 25 points in the last quarter. When asked what he loves about these last-minute spies, he said, "I just enjoy my team."
"I don't want my season to end. I enjoy winning. Just trying to make the best play. I had a lot of turnovers, a lot of things to clean up on. So, I'm exciting to get to the film session to get better."
In addition to Cunningham, Tobias Harris scored 21 points in the game and Duncan Robinson scored 17 points. For the Cavs, Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points and Jarrett Allen had 22 points and seven rebounds. James Harden only had 10 points for the game and had four turnovers.
The Cavs will be able to prove their stuff during Game 3 on Saturday in Cleveland, where the Cavaliers swept Toronto.
So, the Detroit Pistons are off to a hot start. They know what it's like to dig themselves out of a hole in a series, which is what they did against the Magic, so this time, they're starting off strong. It's a great feeling for the Motor City, but they still have to notch two games to make it official.
