PJ Tucker announces NBA retirement with powerful post

The NBA is officially losing one of its toughest competitors and most respected locker-room voices. On Thursday night, PJ Tucker announced his retirement from professional basketball through an emotional Instagram post that immediately resonated across the league.

“20 years being my job but 40 plus years of not being able to fathom doing anything other than it. So here’s to retiring from the NBA… because I will NEVER stop ballin ,” Tucker wrote to his more than 950,000 followers.

The timing of the announcement, arriving in the middle of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, felt fitting. Tucker, of course, is a player whose identity became inseparable from postseason basketball. He carved out a reputation as one of the league’s premier role players and defensive enforcers. Tucker appeared in the playoffs nine different times while logging over 3,000 postseason minutes throughout his career. His journey from fringe roster player to championship cornerstone became one of the NBA’s ultimate stories of perseverance.

The 41-year-old forward leaves behind a career that stretched across eight NBA franchises. He also won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021. Originally selected 35th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft out of Texas, Tucker’s path was anything but smooth. After being waived by the Toronto Raptors in 2007, he spent five years overseas before resurrecting his NBA career with the Phoenix Suns in 2012.

Tucker later became a crucial contributor for contenders like the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and of course, the Bucks. Across 886 career regular season games, he averaged 6.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals while shooting 36.6 percent from three-point range. Yet his legacy extends far beyond statistics. Tucker embodied toughness, versatility, and sacrifice. Championship teams trusted him when the games mattered most.
