'Please just let the kid be a kid…' LeBron James puts out emotional message pleading critics to leave Bronny James out of mock drafts
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Bronny James is having a not-so-great year so far for the USC Trojans. Poor play and his health scare have not helped his case on the draft boards. His father LeBron James responded with an emotional message after his son was left out of the latest 2024 mock NBA draft.

ESPN put out its first mock for the 2025 NBA Draft yesterday with Bronny James going in the second round. This means ESPN has taken James Jr. off its 2024 draft board. This led to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar James Sr. putting out a response via his social media account.

He wrote;

Can yall please just let the kid be a kid and enjoy college basketball. The work and results will ultimately do the talking no matter what he decides to do. If y’all don’t know he doesn’t care what a mock draft says, he just WORKS! Earned Not Given!

James Sr. put out a second tweet asking young basketball players to ignore mock drafts and focus on putting in real work. He believes that in the end, only the real work will talk and nothing else.

LeBron James has since deleted the comments from his social media accounts. But, what he had to say about Bronny James’ omission was emotional and strong. James Sr. made it clear that his son’s play on the court will ultimately decide when and where he ends up in the NBA.

James Jr. has to work on improving his game so that NBA teams become eager to draft him. ESPN has him going in the second round as they do not think any team will want to draft him this year.

Will Bronny James not be drafted in 2024?

Before the 2023-24 NBA season started, Bronny James was touted to be a top-10 pick in the 2024 Draft. Such was his stock coming out of high school that many had the young James joining his illustrious father as a lottery pick. But a cardiac arrest before his debut in college basketball drew red flags. After recovering, James Jr. debuted for the USC Trojans in December last year.

The problem with James Jr. is that even though he missed the initial 8 games, he has played in 19 games so far. That is enough time to showcase one’s skills. Instead, his averages of 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists so far have caused many NBA scouts to not consider him, at least for this year.

Based on these reasons, ESPN predicts Bronny James to head into the NBA in the 2025 draft. But this did not sit well with LeBron James, causing him to pour his heart out on social media.
