The New York Knicks’ loss could be the Portland Trail Blazers’ gain this offseason, as they look to recruit a young star.

The Portland Trail Blazers have quietly been having a strong offseason. Things didn’t necessarily start out strong, but given where their franchise has been the last few years, it has been quite the recovery.

The Trail Blazers started out by landing Jrue Holiday from the Boston Celtics, getting rid of Anfernee Simons in the process.

It became clear the Trail Blazers were moving on from some key stars on their previous roster. Deandre Ayton agreed to a buyout with the Trail Blazers, after which he went on to join the LA Lakers

But by far, their biggest move this offseason was one no one saw coming. After Damian Lillard got waived by the Milwaukee Bucks, several teams tried to land Lillard despite his Achilles injury ruling him out next season.

But Lillard opted to return home to the Trail Blazers, rejoining the team he ascended to superstardom with. Landing Lillard was a big get. However, the Trail Blazers could be looking to bolster their squad even further.

Portland Trail Blazers want MarJon Beauchamp on two-way contract

According to NBA insider Landon Buford, the Portland Trail Blazers are looking to sign former New York Knicks and LA Clippers star MarJon Beauchamp.

Beauchamp last played for the New York Knicks in the NBA Summer League. However, he had signed a two-way contract with the Knicks in March after the LA Clippers waived him.

“Blazers have some interest in adding NBA Free Agent Forward MarJon Beauchamp, I’m told.

“The Knicks recently elected not to extend an offer following the conclusion of his two-way contract with the team last season.”

Beauchamp was the 24th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. After an unsuccessful stint with the Milwaukee Bucks , he went to the LA Clippers as part of the Kevin Porter Jr. trade.

New York Knicks seemingly done with roster additions

As Buford reported, the New York Knicks didn’t re-sign Beauchamp to a two-way contract. Despite Beauchamp doing well at the Summer League, he didn’t do enough to earn a new deal.

During the Summer League, Beauchamp averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

But the Knicks felt they had to prioritize the roster they have. As such, the Knicks extended Mikal Bridges to a $150 million contract.

Bridges’ extension came about due to Giannis Antetokounmpo, as the Knicks seemingly learned that the superstar forward was not going to be traded.

As such, they chose to secure their current assets. One can imagine that Bridges’ hefty new contract came at the expense of a two-way deal for Beauchamp.
