The Phoenix Suns, assuming they trade away Kevin Durant, will still be in some flux this offseason. Devin Booker is a franchise player, although it's unclear if the timeline around him lines up for the Suns, who have made it clear that they don't want to trade him.
After the draft, when rookies have been signed to their first contracts, the Suns have a bit more flexibility, although not by much. Still, in a deal with the San Antonio Spurs, the Suns should be able to, finally, find some direction and build organically.
The Suns have some depth pieces, but a lot of them are either free agents or are tied up in longer contracts than the Suns would like. The Spurs, meanwhile, need shooters and a backup center behind Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs have been linked to both Durant and Booker, although a smaller deal might better serve the two teams.
Full Mock Trade Details
In the loaded West, the Suns will need to take a season to regroup (and get closer to shedding Bradley Beal's contract!), and by adding Johnson, who is on a reasonable salary and can lead a second unit, and two rookies, they are able to get back on track and build around Booker.
The Spurs, meanwhile, round out their wing depth with Allen, who will play alongside Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, and Julian Champagnie, although he is likely the best defender in the group.
Instead of hoping Derik Queen falls to them 14th or selecting Thomas Sorber or another center prospect, the Spurs add the serviceable Richards behind Wembanyama.
While it's not the splashy move that will save the franchise, it does provide Phoenix with some much-needed direction and much-needed youth in the post-Durant years, assuming they trade him.
