The San Antonio Spurs acquired one of the most unique basketball talents from the 2023 NBA Draft. Star center Victor Wembanyama had a stellar rookie year with San Antonio. He could be getting more help from potential top-10 pick and former Kentucky basketball guard Rob Dillingham in 2024. Dillingham shared his exciting Wembanyama plan if the Spurs select him.

San Antonio possesses the fourth and eighth picks in the 2024 NBA Draft. They could go in several directions with the amount of talent on the board. Yet, since they have a lock at the center and seemingly at the forward positions, the Spurs will likely opt for a guard. This is where Rob Dillingham comes in.

Dillingham’s electric offensive ability projects him to be a lottery pick, and one place he would love to go is San Antonio. Dillingham praised Victor Wembanyama before revealing his plan for playing alongside the highly touted center.

“That was the craziest first year in a long time,” Dillingham said about Wembanyama’s historic rookie numbers, via the San Antonio Express. “He could be one of the best players ever. If I’m playing with Wemby, it’s obvious: I am coming in to give Wemby the ball.”

Dillingham’s plan is likely music to Wembanyama’s ears. The 7-foot-4 center did not have a problem scoring during the 2023-24 season, but getting extra touches could take his offense to a new level. Rob Dillingham was not bad himself during his lone year with the Kentucky basketball team.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 15.2 points and shot a red-hot 44.0 percent on three-pointers during the 2023-24 season. In addition, he helped lead Kentucky to a first-round NCAA Tournament showing.

Dillingham and Wembanyama would be an intriguing pairing. The French center’s versatile skillset makes him an attractive player for anyone to play with.

Victor Wembanyama looks to help Spurs ascend after impressive rookie year

Wembanyama started his NBA career with San Antonio after the franchise selected him with the first overall pick in the 2023 Draft. He was touted among the best prospects ever for his length and all-around ability. Most notably, the 7-foot-4 center showed his ability to score from all three levels and make defensive plays look effortless.

The hype was unreal, but as Rob Dillingham stated, Wembanyama did not disappoint. He averaged 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks through 69 games of the 2023-24 season. As a result, he won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award and was a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.

If there is one player who represents the idea of a basketball unicorn, Wembanyama is him. Whether it is shot creation, deep-range shooting, or straight-up bully ball, Wembanyama has an endless arsenal to light opposing defenses up.

He is nearly unguardable and creates a unique dynamic for the Spurs offense. Wembanyama’s defensive abilities speak for themselves. As the tallest player in the NBA with the longest reach, players have to think multiple times before driving on the star center.

If Wembanyama improves off his rookie year and brings his team with him, the Spurs could be scary in the future. It will be interesting to see how the team handles the 2024 NBA Draft amid numerous options.
