YourLos Angeles Lakers were crowned the first-ever in-season tournament champions after their 123-109 win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.
The Lakers displayed dominance all tournament long and looked like the championship-contending team many envisioned they'd be before the start of the season. A big part of that had to do with the play of superstar forward LeBron James. James played out of his mind, earning him the tournament MVP.
The MVP went to James, and rightfully so. ESPN analyst and sideline reporter Cassidy Hubbarth gave her flowers to James and took it a step further, saying the in-season tournament MVP trophy should be named after LeBron after capturing git in the inaugural season.
"I can foresee when LeBron retires in 2052, they're going to name this tournament MVP after him. This was another thing in his legacy that no other player can say that they got, the first in-season tournament MVP."
This could be one of many trophies that could be named after James when all is said and done. His legacy is forever cemented, but this tournament MVP can be an add to what is already a Hall of Fame career and possibly the best we've ever witnessed.
En route to MVP, James averaged 26.4 points, eight rebounds, and 7.6 assists in seven games to lead the Purple and Gold to a 7-0 record in the tournament. The 38-year-old superstar is not done; we're only a quarter through the season, and we'll see what else James and this Laker squad can accomplish.
How many trophies will be named after him when James' career is said and done?
